We tend to overlook the more simplified aspects of business in general.
Take Newton’s First Law of Motion. You’ve heard it if not actually studied it in high school. “An object in motion tends to stay in motion. An object at rest tends to stay at rest.” This is how we remember the “law”. But, there is a phrase we forget that I did not include in the recollection above; “unless acted upon by an unbalanced force”.
The unbalanced force in your business or your life is YOU and your collective company’s efforts. Want sales to grow? You’ll need an unbalanced force toward that outcome. That means, you’ll need to exert more energy/resources/creativity into the effort to get it moving forward than whatever you’re doing now. By definition, whatever you’re doing now is providing the exact amount of returns that is proportional to the current effort.
Want to get more visitors to your website? You need to exert an unbalanced force of energy/resources/creativity toward that end.
Want to be better at something? You need to exert an unbalanced force of energy/resources/creativity to developing that improvement.
The balanced force creates equilibrium – no change at all.
The universe as well as the marketplace responds to unbalanced forces. Those forces, thoughtfully crafted, strategically deployed with disciplined execution, move objects from rest to motion or if in motion change trajectories of products, brands or people’s lives.
Where are you exerting unbalanced forces in your business or your life that will get you to where you want to go? Your alternative is to not exert any unbalanced forces in which case you are most likely to stay exactly where you are. That choice is yours.
